In the Express Entry draw held on October 16, a total of 500 candidates were invited by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC) to apply for permanent residence. The program-specific draw invited only candidates in the Federal Skilled Trades Class(FSTC). The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off threshold in the latest draw was 357 points. This is way too low compared to the CRS cut-off score in the previous Express Entry draw held on October 2nd, which was 464.
Tie-break rule was applied in the October 16 draw, the time stamp given being March 4, 2019 at 20:36:42 UTC. It means the draw prioritized those candidates who had submitted their Express Entry profiles before the said date and time. The last time IRCC held program-specific draw for FSTC candidates was on May 15, 2019. This is the second program-specific draw to be held in the year 2019.
Express Entry draw for Federal Skilled Trades Class candidates
In an Express Entry draw, candidates with the minimum required CRS score are invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada. But candidates belonging to the Skilled Trades Class usually do not have enough CRS scores to be invited in the all-program Express Entry draws. So IRCC conducts Express Entry draws exclusively for Federal Skilled Trades Class candidates twice or thrice every year.
Federal Skilled Trades Class
Federal Skilled Trades Class is the one of the three federal economic immigration programs managed under the Express Entry system. Federal Skilled Worker Class and the Canadian Experience Class are the two others. Foreign nationals who are eligible to work in an eligible skilled Trade in Canada or have an eligible employment offer in Canada can apply for Canada PR through Federal Skilled Trades Class, if they meet other criteria.
As Canada has set a higher immigration target for the year 2019, it is expected that the larger, all-program draws would resume soon.As per the Canada Immigration Levels Plan for 2019-2021, the country is planning to welcome around 256,000 candidates through Federal Skilled Worker Class, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades Class. Another 200,000 or so immigrants will also be admitted through the provincial nominee programs over the next three years, as per the Plan.
