Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has reverted to 60-day deadline for the Express Entry candidates to submit their application for permanent residence after receiving the Invitation to Apply (ITA). The change came into effect on June 26, 2018. It means all candidates who have received ITAs after the said date, only have 60 days to submit their application for permanent residence. But those who have received ITAs before June 26 still have 90 days to submit their applications.
It was in November 2016, the IRCC changed the application deadline from 60 days to 90 days. By reverting to the 60-day deadline, IRCC is aiming to make the Express Entry process faster. While the change will help IRCC to know sooner if the invited candidates are applying for permanent residence, it will put more pressure on the candidates for submitting the application.
According to a report released by IRCC in 2017, 41 per cent of the Express Entry candidates who received ITAs after November 2016 submitted their applications between 61 days to 90 days. But when the deadline was only 60 days, 90 per cent of the candidates submitted their applications within 60 days.
IRCC has always upheld fast processing of applications for permanent residence as one of its major goals.
If you are an Express Entry candidate who has received ITA after June 26, 2018, you must submit the application within 60 days. The completed application must be submitted online with all the supporting documents. You can also decline the ITA in the online account. If the candidate fails to respond to the ITA within 60 days, it will expire and his profile will be removed from the Express Entry pool. In order to re-enter the Express Entry pool, the candidate will have to submit a new profile.
