When the all-program Express Entry draws resume in July, the processing of Canada immigration applications through Express Entry will return to the processing standard of six months. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) was able to bring down the backlog of applications in the past few months, which has made reducing the processing time of applications possible.
Starting from July, Canada will again start issuing invitations to skilled worker candidates from all economic immigration programs through Express Entry. Canada has also announced other major changes to Express Entry that will affect the speed of the Express Entry applications being processed. Express Entry draws are likely to become occupation-based and the candidates who will help Canada to meet their specific economic goals would be invited.
Experts predict that the draws may target specific National Occupation Classification (NOC) codes. Specific categories would be created for candidates based on their work experience, area of specialisation and educational qualifications. Invitations would be issued to high-ranking candidates from these categories. The categories would be established by the Immigration Minister via ministerial instructions.
Canada is also planning to overhaul the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system, because of which, 16 new occupations would become eligible for Express Entry. The current skill level-based classification would be replaced by TEER classification, which stands for Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities.
The 16 occupations to be added to the NOC are:
- Payroll administrators
- Dental assistants and dental laboratory assistants
- Nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates
- Pharmacy technical assistants and pharmacy assistants
- Elementary and secondary school teacher assistants
- Sheriffs and bailiffs
- Correctional service officers
- By-law enforcement and other regulatory officers
- Estheticians, electrologists and related occupations
- Residential and commercial installers and servicers
- Pest controllers and fumigators
- Other repairers and servicers
- Transport truck drivers
- Bus drivers, subway operators and other transit operators
- Heavy equipment operators
- Aircraft assemblers and aircraft assembly inspectors.
Three occupations will become ineligible, which are:
- Other performers
- Program leaders and instructors in recreation, sport and fitness
- Tailors, dressmakers, furriers and milliners.
