A total of 5320 permanent residents moved to New Brunswick in 2021, compared to 2895 in 2020. Pandemic, which caused restrictions for immigration was also a reason for low number of immigrants in 2020.
New Brunswick awaiting more immigrants
The total population of the province is just around 800,000 and it totally depends on immigration for increase in population. The province is also committed to improve the experience of living in the province for newcomers, according to Minister Dunn.
New Brunswick is expected to welcome around 7820 new permanent residents in 2022. In the first three months of the year, the province has already welcomed 1955 new permanent residents. With Canada setting ambitious targets for welcoming a record number of immigrants in the coming years, it is expected that more immigrants would settle in New Brunswick as well as other provinces.
