Canada recorded 5.6 lakh job vacancies in Q3 2019

According to the new figures released by Statistics Canada, the total number of job vacancies reported in Canada during the third quarter of the year 2019 was 562900. It means the number of vacancies is up by 2.2 percent compared to the number of vacancies reported during the same period in 2018.

The year-over-year increase in Canada job vacancies is 12200.
The highest number of job vacancies was reported in Quebec, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Yukon. Industry-wise, retail trade and healthcare sectors saw the biggest increase in vacancies.
Newfoundland recorded a 20.4 percent year-on-year increase in vacancies in the third quarter of 2019.It means 800 more job vacancies compared to the previous year. This is the sixth consecutive quarter where the province is reporting a year-over-year growth in job vacancies.
In Nova Scotia, the number of job vacancies rose by 16.2 percent, or 1900 in number. The highest number of vacancies was reported in retail trade, and healthcare and social assistance sectors.
Quebec also witnessed an increase in vacancies by 16.2 percent, which is equal to 19,100 job vacancies in number. Almost half of these vacancies were reported in retail trade and health care and social assistance sectors.
Compared to the previous year, the retail trade sector recorded a total of 9,400 more vacancies this year. Another sector which witnessed a significant growth in the number of vacancies was the healthcare and social assistance sector that saw job vacancies increasing by 2,800.
Notably, the employers depended on social media to fill the vacancies in the case of more than half of all these vacancies in the third quarter. This was only one third of all vacancies in the same quarter of 2015.
