The much awaited Alberta Express Entry Stream has been unveiled by the province, along with a new Alberta Opportunity Stream. The two new streams were introduced by the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) on June 14.
Now on, Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) can directly select qualified candidates from the federal Express Entry pool and invite them to apply for provincial nomination.
Alberta Express Entry Stream
Under the Alberta Express Entry Stream, candidates who have demonstrated strong ties with the province and those who can support the economic development and diversification priorities of the Alberta government will be invited apply.
The Express Entry system of Canada has three major economic immigration classes under it- the Federal Skilled Worker Class, the Federal Skilled Trades Class and the Canadian Experience Class. The candidates who receive provincial nomination get 600 extra Comprehensive Ranking System points, which increases their chances for being invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada.
Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS)
The newly introduced Alberta Opportunity Stream is a pathway for candidates already working in Alberta. AOS replaces Employer-Driven Stream and Strategic Recruitment Stream of Alberta. Both the streams were closed on June 14. AOS operates outside the Express Entry and the candidates do not need employer support in order to apply under this stream.
In order to be eligible to apply under this Stream, the candidate:
-Must be working full-time in Alberta
-Must be working in an eligible occupation
-Must meet minimum selection criteria for residency
-Must meet other criteria including employment status, occupation, language, education, work experience, and income level.
The AINP has been allotted a maximum of 5,600 nominations for 2018 by Canada’s federal government. With the new changes, AINP aims to better serve workers in Alberta to become permanent residents. The new streams have simplified the application process, will reduce the waiting period and provide fair access to all workers in Alberta who wish to obtain permanent residence.
