According to the new progress report on Ontario’s immigration strategy, majority of 2017 nominees are employed in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) occupations.
OINP
Through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), Ontario nominates potential immigrants and families for permanent residence. The program targets skilled workers, international students and entrepreneurs. It also supports the efforts of the employers to attract and retain skilled workers. With an aim to meet the demand for OINP, the province has expanded its human resources and introduced an online application system for reducing the processing time. As part of improving the program, Ontario has launched two new immigration streams: The Express Entry: Skilled Trades Stream and Employer Job Offer: In-demand Skills Stream Pilot.
The Human Capital Priorities Stream of the OINP, which is aligned with the federal Express Entry pool, also opened several times in 2017. Through the stream, Notifications of Interest (NOIs) are issued to qualified candidates. NOIs serve as Invitations to Apply for provincial nominations.
