Prince Edward Island issued 104 invitations to candidates belonging to the Express Entry, Labour Impact and Business Impact categories in a Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) draw held on May 16. Of the total invitations issued, 90 went to candidates who have registered Expressions of Interest (EoIs) with either the Express Entry Category or with one of Labour Impact Category streams of PEI PNP. However, PEI PNP has not revealed the specific number of invitations issued under each of these categories.
Fourteen Business Impact: Work Permit Stream candidates were also invited in the draw, the lowest score being 107. The cut-off score was the same in the previous draw held on April 18 and this is the lowest score so far in 2019.
Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program
The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) allows the province to nominate a set number of economic immigration candidates who match local labour market needs. The Express Entry category of the PEI PNP is aligned to the federal Express Entry system. In order to be considered for provincial nomination under this category, the candidates must first register a separate Expression of Interest with the PEI PNP.
All candidates who submit Expressions of Interest are issued a score out of 100 based on a number of eligibility factors such as education, skilled work experience, language proficiency etc. The candidates who score the highest points are invited to apply for provincial nomination in the draws that are conducted regularly. The Express Entry candidates nominated by Prince Edward Island would receive 600 additional CRS score points that would guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada. Though a job offer is not a mandatory requirement to apply, preference is given to those candidates living and working in the province.
The Labour Impact Category of PEI PNP consists of three streams — Skilled Worker, Critical Worker and International Graduate. This category also requires the candidates to submit an Expression of Interest to the PEI PNP. Those nominated through these streams have their applications for Canadian permanent residence processed outside the Express Entry system.
PEI’s Business Impact: Work Permit Stream is for those planning to own and operate a business in the province. The selected candidates will receive a temporary work permit to establish their business. If the conditions of the Performance Agreement with the Government of Prince Edward Island are met, they may apply for Canadian permanent residence.
The next Expression of Interest draw of Prince Edward Island is scheduled for June 20, 2019. Recent data shows that PEI has recorded the fastest population growth among Canada’s Atlantic provinces, with immigration being a major driving force.
