In the latest draw held on March 21, Prince Edward Island invited 150 candidates to apply for provincial nomination. The invited candidates belonged to Express Entry, Labour Impact and Entrepreneur categories of Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP).
Prince Edward Island is one of the 11 Canadian provinces and territories that take part in the Provincial Nominee Program(PNP) of Canada. Under the PNP, Prince Edward Island invites a set number of candidates for provincial nomination every year. Prince Edward Island conducts draws every month to choose candidates who have submitted their Expression of Interest to be considered for provincial nomination.
With the latest draw, the total number of invitations issued by PEI PNP so far this year has reached 440. Among the 150 invitations issued in the latest draw, 131 invitations were issued to candidates belonging to the Express Entry and Labour Impact categories. However, PEI did not provide a breakdown of these numbers. The rest of the invitations were issued to 19 entrepreneur candidates through the Business Impact: Work Permit Stream category. These candidates can now apply for a letter of support for a temporary work permit.
Prince Edward Island Express Entry
The Express Entry category of the Prince Edward Island is linked to the federal Express Entry system. The first step for Express Entry candidates to apply for provincial nomination from PEI is submitting and Expression of Interest (EoI) profile with the PEI PNP. Each profile is awarded a score out of 100 based on a number of eligibility factors such as education, work experience, language proficiency etc. The highest ranking candidates are then invited to apply for provincial nomination in the Expression of Interest draws that are conducted regularly. The candidates who receive nomination from Prince Edward Island will receive 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score points that will guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw.
PEI Labour Impact category
PEI’s Labour Impact Category is not aligned to the Express Entry system. The category comprises three EoI-based streams–Skilled Workers (in PEI and outside Canada), International Graduates and Critical Workers. In order to be considered for provincial nomination, Labour Impact candidates must be either be working in PEI or have a full-time, long-term job offer from a PEI employer.
PEI’s Business Impact: Work Permit Stream
In order to be eligible under this stream, the foreign entrepreneurs must have business ownership or eligible management experience and be ready to invest in or run a business in PEI. The stream also operates on EoI basis and the lowest score of the candidates invited in the March 21 draw was 110.
