US dream is now a mirage, Canada turns a haven for international students

With the US laws turning tougher for international students, many of them are finding Canada as an attractive study destination. But to say that international students are choosing Canada only because the US is hostile to them will be an understatement. Canada is offering vast opportunities for international students to stay and work in the country even after they finish their studies. Their favourable policies Canada is keen about retaining global talents with skills, education and capability to contribute to the country’s economy.

The student can earn valuable Canadian work experience with a Postgraduate Work Permit and apply for permanent residence in Canada either through Canadian Experience Class or one of the Provincial Nominee Programs that give weightage to international students who have studied in Canada and have Canadian work experience.

One of the schemes that make Canada a favorable education destination for Asian students is the Student Direct Stream. This scheme is meant for the students from India, Vietnam, China and the Philippines. The Student Direct Stream facilitates a faster and more streamlined visa application process and the processing time under this stream is 45 days. Under the scheme, the student can purchase a Guaranteed Investment Certificate worth $10,000 with the help of Scotia Bank, a leading monetary organization in Canada. This will cover the student’s expenses for one year and cover the requirements of Student Direct Stream.

But in glaring contrast, the US has issued a Policy Memo on what they call ‘Unlawful Presence’. This will come into effect on August 8, 2018 and as per this memo, students overstaying for more than three months will be issued an NTA- Notice to Appear, as part of initiating the deportation procedure. If found guilty, the student will be barred from entering the US for 10 years.

A Brief Guide on How to Get a Job after Pursuing Education in Canada

Canada offers a lot of opportunities for international students to work in the country and obtain permanent residence after they complete their graduation. This is exactly the reason why many students choose Canada as their study destination. Canada is keen about retaining the global talents capable of contributing towards its economy and labor force. And as far as a student is concerned, as foreign education is an expensive affair, getting a job immediately after their graduation will be a huge relief for them. Also gaining work experience in Canada will increase their chances of obtaining permanent residence in Canada.

There are three major ways to get a job after pursuing education in Canada.

Postgraduate work program

Under this program, international students who have graduated from a participating Canadian postsecondary institution can earn valuable Canadian work experience. The postgraduate work permit is issued for the length of the study program, the maximum duration being three years. In order to apply for the postgraduate work program, the education program pursued by the student must be of a minimum duration of eight months.

Other eligibility requirements include:

– Minimum 18 years of age

Canadian Experience Class is the fastest and simplest pathway to permanent residence for international students. The international students can earn sufficient work experience (minimum one year) after their studies with a post-graduate work permit, which will make them eligible to enter the Express Entry pool under  Canadian Experience Class.

Provincial Nominee Programs

Under these programs, international students graduated from a Canadian institution can apply for provincial nomination for permanent residence in Canada. Five things you need to know about Canada’s new biometrics rules

Canada is planning to introduce new biometrics rules on July 31st that will make it mandatory visa applicants from Europe, the Middle East and Africa to provide biometrics details including fingerprints and a photo. Canada’s new biometrics rules aims to facilitate application processing and make entry to Canada simple for low-risk travellers. These rules will be made applicable for applicants from Asia, Asia-Pacific and the Americas too, on December 31, 2018.

Here are five important things that you need to know about Canada’s new biometrics rules.

Who all are needed to provide biometric details?

Canada’s new biometrics rules are applicable for all those who are applying for Canadian visitor visa, work or study permit, or permanent residence and those seeking asylum in the country. All applicants between the ages of 14 and 79 are supposed to provide their biometrics details.

What is the process of submitting biometric details?

Those applying for visa or study/work permit will receive a Biometrics Instruction Letter from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The applicants can submit their biometrics at their nearest Visa Application Centres (VACs) authorized by the Government of Canada. They have to present the Biometrics Instruction Letter at the VAC. Currently there are 137 VACs spread across 95 countries. In India, VACs are located in:

Ahmedabad

Bangalore

Chandigarh

Chennai

Hyderabad

Jalandhar

Kolkata

Mumbai

New Delhi

Pune

In the United Arab Emirates, VACs are located in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Collecting the biometrics details will cost CAD $85 for an individual applicant and CAD $170 for a family applying together.

Where are biometrics details applied?

The biometrics collected will be used to confirm the identity of the traveller once he or she reaches Canada. Eight major Canadian airports will host self-serve Primary Inspection Kiosks. Here the travellers can get their fingerprints verified and photos confirmed. The travellers can also make an on-screen declaration. At other airports and land ports of entry, the fingerprint verification of travellers will be done at the discretion of Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) will check the fingerprints submitted by the candidate against the fingerprint records of criminals, refugee claimants, deportees, and temporary resident applicants. The visa officer handling the application will also check this before taking a final decision on the application.

Is the privacy of the applicant protected?

The biometrics details collected from the applicants will be encrypted and sent to the Canadian Immigration Biometrics Identification System. Once the data is transferred to this database, all the personal information will be deleted from the collection system. Canada shares biometric information with the United States, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom in accordance with the privacy laws and civil liberties and human rights commitments of Canada.

How often a person has to submit biometrics details

The applicants of visit visa or work/study permit need to give biometrics only once in 10 years. But when a person is reapplying after his application was rejected once, he or she will have to give biometrics details once again. If the visit visa or work / study permit applicants happen to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the future, they will have to give the biometrics details with the application.

5 Signs That Prove an Immigration Consultancy is Reliable!

Countries like Canada and Australia offer vast opportunities and high quality of life for immigrants with skills and other required qualifications. This is the reason why many aspire to build up a new life in these countries. But they have to face high competition to obtain visa from these countries. This is where they need to seek the service of an expert immigration consultant who can help them apply for a visa on a timely and foolproof manner. The service of an experienced immigration consultant will increase your chances of obtaining a visa.

But before seeking the help of an immigration consultancy, you must make sure that the consultancy is genuine and reliable. Because fake agents can land you in trouble and you may end up losing your hard-earned money, documents and opportunities. In some cases, you may even lose your eligibility to apply for certain visas and immigration programs. So you must take utmost care while choosing an immigration consultancy.

Here are five signs to check if an immigration consultancy is reliable:

Check if it is a registered consultancy

Before choosing an immigration consultancy, you must check whether it is registered with the immigration regulatory body of the country to where you are planning to immigrate, ie ICCRC for Canada and MARA for Australia. Also, instead of choosing freelance consultants, choose a consultancy with an office set-up and years of service, for they are less likely to cheat you.

Good testimonials

Most of the consultancies will be having a website, which you can check before approaching them directly.  Go through the testimonials and check the information provided on the website, and you will know if they are experts in the field. You can also talk to friends and relative who have knowledge on matters related to immigration. Choose a consultancy after considering matters such as the number of employees, customers, company’s history and payment option.

Transparency in dealings

The consultant must first give you basic information regarding immigration before proceeding further. You must also share your views, priorities and plans for immigration with the consultant. Ask the consultant about the charges and what all services they offer. You must also ask for a break-up of charges to know how much they charge for consultancy and how much is the visa. It is ideal to ask everything in writing through e-mail, before you move on to make payment. If possible, sign a contract with the consultancy regarding the immigration services in order to avoid any disputes.

Satisfactory service to past clients

You can inquire with the consultancy how many applicants obtained visa with their support during the past one year. A good track record of the consultancy is a green signal that you can trust them. Choose a consultancy that will regularly update you regarding the progress of your visa application.

Straight-forward communication

Some fraud consultants might try to lure you with sweet words and false promises. In order to avoid falling into their trap, you must first have a basic understanding about the immigration process. Also be cautious about the consultants who give you a job guarantee. Most often, they turn out to be fake.
