In the first Saskatchewan Expression of Interest draw of 2020 held on January 9, Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) issued 308 invitations to apply for provincial nomination. The invitations were issued to candidates belonging to Express Entry and Occupations In-Demand sub-categories of SINP. Of the total invitations issued, 142 went to candidates belonging to Express Entry sub-category and the remaining 166 invitations went to Occupations In-Demand candidates. The invited candidates of both the sub-categories had a minimum score of 69 on the Points Assessment Grid of Saskatchewan.
The January 9 draw invited candidates in 82 occupations including managers in agriculture, electronic service technicians and administrative officers. Though a job offer was not necessary to be invited in the latest draw, the candidates were required to have submitted an Expression of Interest to the SINP. They also needed to have at least one year work experience in an eligible occupation, related to their field of study.
Saskatchewan Expression of Interest
Those who wish to receive provincial nomination from Saskatchewan through either the Express Entry sub-category or the Occupations In-Demand sub-category must first submit an Expression of Interest to Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program. Based on the information provided in the EoI, each profile is assessed on the basis of a number of eligibility factors such as work experience, education, language proficiency, age etc. Based on this assessment, the profiles are awarded a score out of 100 and the highest scoring candidates are invited to apply for provincial nomination in the Saskatchewan Expression of Interest draws.
Saskatchewan Express Entry sub-category
The Express Entry sub-category of SINP is aligned to the federal Express Entry pool. To be selected through the stream, the Express Entry candidates need to submit a separate EoI to SINP. Those who receive provincial nomination from Saskatchewan will have 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score points added to their total CRS score. In effect, it guarantees them an Invitation to Apply for Permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent federal Express Entry draw.
Occupations In-demand sub-category
Those who do not have a federal Express Entry profile may apply for provincial nomination from Saskatchewan through Occupations In-Demand sub category. In order to select candidates, Saskatchewan uses an Excluded Occupations List instead of an In-demand Occupations List. According to SINP immigration authorities, it allows more flexibility to respond to the changing labor market demands of the province.
The Provincial Nominee Program draws that happened in the first 10 days of January indicate that the year 2020 will be an active one for PNPs.
