Canada held an Express Entry draw on July 7 and invited 627 candidates to apply for permanent residence. All the invited candidates are provincial nominees and the Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) cut-off score for the draw was 760. As every provincial nominee would have received an additional 600 CRS score points along with the nomination, the basic CRS score of the invited candidates could be as low as 160.
A tie-break rule was also applied in the draw. The time stamp given was June 14, 2021 at 07:44:05 UTC. It means the draw considered only those candidates who had submitted their profiles before the said date and time.
Draw sizes remain high
Ever since the start of this year, Canadian Express Entry draws have been alternating between Canadian Experience Class and Provincial Nominee Program candidates. Compared to the previous draws, the recent PNP-specific draws have witnessed a higher number of candidates receiving invitations to apply for permanent residence. In the draw held on June 23, IRCC invited more than 1000 PNP candidates, which is the highest number of invitations in any PNP-specific Express Entry draws. The previous record was 940 candidates.
The higher number of invitations indicate Canada’s commitment to meet its immigration targets for the year 2021. As per the Immigration Levels Plan, Canada will be welcoming 401000 new immigrants this year. A quarter of these candidates would enter the country through Express Entry. So far Canada has invited 89342 Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residence. The number is almost twice compared to the same time period in the previous year.
Canada Express Entry
The Express Entry system of Canada manages applications for immigration under the three federal economic immigration programs of the country, which are Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Federal Skilled Trades Program. Some PNPs also invite candidates they select from the Express Entry pool and invite them to apply for provincial nomination.
To receive an Express Entry invitation, a candidate must first create an Express Entry profile. Each Express Entry profile is assessed and awarded a score based on various human capital factors under the Comprehensive Ranking System or CRS. The maximum CRS score is 1200 and Canada conducts Express Entry draws regularly to invite Express Entry candidates with the highest scores. The invited candidates may apply for permanent residence within 60 days.
