Survey finds Canada best place to live

A survey conducted by the US News & World Report has found that Canada is the best country to live in the world.

A media report about the survey results says, “The North American country ranked first in both the quality of life and social purpose sub rankings, meaning that it is seen as a stable and safe society in which individuals can develop and prosper, and is open, fair and equitable”. Canada was placed second or third in the previous editions of the survey.

The US News & World Report conducted the survey titled 2021 U.S. News Best Countries Ranking in partnership with the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and the BAV Group of the VMLY&R marketing communications firm.

More than 17000 people from 78 countries took part in the survey and the responses were assessed on the basis of 76 different metrics. Japan came second best country to live in the world, followed by Germany and Switzerland. Australia, United States, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Sweden and Netherlands are the other countries which have found a place among the top 10.

According to another study report released last year, Canada is among the friendliest countries for immigrants. According to Thomas Huddleston, director of research for Migration Policy Group, Canada and New Zealand are taking over previous top-ranking countries such as Australia, the UK and the United States. In 2020, the Migration Integration Policy Index (MIPEX) ranked the policy performance of 52 countries. It gave Canada a high score of 80, making it the fourth best in terms of comprehensive, immigrant-friendly policies which stress on equal rights, opportunities and security for newcomers.

“The MIPEX scores allow us to gauge how well our policies support or hinder newcomers on their path to settling into Canadian society,” said Anna Triandafyllidou, the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Migration and Integration at Ryerson University. “The index helps us compare our performance over time and identify where we have room for improvement or the potential to learn from other countries.”

A major factor that makes Canada the best place to live in the world are its anti-discrimination policies. Canada is in a leading position because of its anti-discriminatory laws and policies that include the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and its national policies on multiculturalism.
