In the first Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)-specific Express Entry draw of 2020 held on August 6, a total of 250 candidates received Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence in Canada. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required for candidates to receive an invitation was 415.
In the previous Express Entry draw that was held just one day ago on August 5, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC) had invited 3900 immigration candidates to apply for Canada PR. The total number of candidates who received invitations in these two draws is 4150.
Despite the impact of coronavirus pandemic, Canada is setting record in terms of Express Entry invitations being issued in the current year. So far, Canada has issued 61,850 Express Entry ITAs in 2020. This is the highest number of invitations to have issued in the same time period of any year since the launch of the Express Entry system in 2015.
Federal Skilled Trades program Express Entry draw:
IRCC is holding an exclusive Express Entry draw for FSTP candidates for the seventh time. The Skilled Trades Program, launched in 2013, help Canada address the labor shortage in skilled trades occupations. To be eligible under the Skilled Trades program, the candidates must have work experience in one of the following trades/occupations:
- Industrial, electrical and construction
- Maintenance, equipment operation
- Technical and supervisor jobs in natural resources, agriculture, and related production
- Processing, manufacturing, utilities, central control operations
- Chefs and cooks
- Butchers or bakers
The previous Skilled Trades Express Entry draw was held on October 16, 2019.
FSTP is the federal economic immigration program under which the lowest number of ITAs is issued in Express Entry draws. In 2019, the total number of ITAs issued to FSTP candidates was only 1000 out of 85300. One reason for this low number is the fact that FSTP candidates usually have lower CRS scores compared to Federal Skilled Worker Program and Canadian Experience Class candidates.
