In the Express Entry draw held on May 12, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 557 candidates to apply for permanent residence. The draw exclusively targeted candidates who have received provincial nomination. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off threshold was 752 points. A tie-break rule was applied and the time stamp given was April 29, 2021, at 10:18:12 UTC. It means only those eligible candidates who have submitted their applications before the said date and time received invitations in the draw.
Over the past few months, Canada Express Entry draws have been alternately targeting Provincial Nominee Program candidates and Canadian Experience Class candidates. If this trend continues, we can expect a Canadian Experience Class-specific draw in two days.
Canada is going through the third wave of COVID-19. Giving hope to aspiring immigrants, the number of infections is falling in the country and the vaccination program is speeding up. Because of the pandemic, the Express Entry draws have increasingly been focusing on those candidates who are already in Canada. But it is expected that when the COVID-19 situation in Canada is brought under control, the Express Entry draws would again become more inclusive. Canada is also likely to conduct all-program Express Entry draws.
Canada Express Entry system
The Express Entry system of Canada manages applications for immigration under the three federal economic immigration programs of Canada, which are Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program and Canadian Experience Class. The candidates who wish to receive an Express Entry invitation must first create an Express Entry profile. Each of these profiles is assessed and ranked on the basis of Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. The CRS score, awarded on the basis of various eligibility factors such as age, education, work experience etc., is calculated out of 1200. Those with the highest scores would receive Invitations to Apply for permanent residence in Canada.
Almost all the Provincial Nominee Programs in Canada have at least one stream or category aligned to the federal Express Entry. The Express Entry candidates nominated by Canadian provinces receive an additional 600 CRS score points. So, it becomes easier for them to receive an ITA in the federal Express Entry draws that are conducted regularly.
