The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held its biggest ever Provincial Nominee Program(PNP)-specific Express Entry draw on June 9 and invited a total of 940 candidates to apply for permanent residence. The minimum required Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for the invited candidates was 711. As the provincial nominees have already received 600 additional CRS score points, the basic score of the lowest-scoring candidate who have received invitation in this draw would be as low as 111.
A tie-break rule was applied in the latest draw too and the time stamp given was February 16, 2021 at 09:06:30 UTC. It means only those candidates who had submitted their profiles before the said date and time received invitations in the draw.
The number of candidates who received invitations in the previous PNP specific draw was 500 and the CRS cut-off score was 713. In the latest draw, the number of invitations was almost doubled and at the same time, the cut-off score dipped by two points.
Despite the impact of the pandemic, Canada is inviting a high number of candidates to apply for Canada PR. The total number of invitations issued by Canada so far this year is 75,713.
Canada Express Entry system
The Express Entry system of Canada manages applications for immigration under the three economic immigration programs, which as the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program and the Canadian Experience Class. Most of the Provincial Nominee Programs also have at least one stream or category that is aligned to the federal Express Entry system.
The first step in migrating to Canada through Express Entry is creating an Express Entry profile. The profile is then assessed based on various human capital factors such as age, education, language ability etc. and awarded a CRS score out of 1200. Those with the highest scores are invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the Express Entry draws that are conducted regularly. As mentioned earlier, provincial nominees receive 600 additional CRS score points. So naturally, the CRS cut-off score for PNP-specific draws would be comparatively higher.
