In the second Express Entry draw of 2022 held on January 19, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC) invited 1036 immigration candidates to apply for permanent residence. The draw, which exclusively targeted Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates, had set a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off score at 745. As these candidates have already received 600 CRS score points, the cut-off score was not obviously too high. The score is also low compared to that of the first Express Entry draw of 2022 held on January 5, which was 808. A total of 1428 PNP candidates have been invited through these two Express Entry draws.
Since September 2021, the Express Entry draws have been exclusively targeting PNP candidates. It is learned that IRCC wants to reduce application backlogs at least by half before inviting candidates from other categories. The CRS cut-off score has been hovering around 700 and 800 in the past 10 PNP-specific Express Entry draws.
Canada Express Entry
The Express Entry system of Canada manages applications for immigration under the three federal economic immigration programs of the country, which are Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program and Federal Skilled Trades Program. The PNP candidates who receive invitations in the Express Entry draws have already qualified under one of these programs.
The first step in migrating to Canada through Express Entry is creating an Express Entry profile. Based on the information provided in the profile, the candidate will be assessed on the parameters of various human capital factors such as age, education, work experience etc. and a Comprehensive Ranking Score will be awarded to them. Those with the highest scores will be invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada. If they successfully apply, they will receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence or COPR with which, they can move to Canada.
