The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held the first Express Entry draw after announcing the resumption of all-program Express Entry draws in July 2022, on April 27 and invited 829 provincial nominees to apply for permanent residence in Canada. To be eligible, the candidates were required to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 772. As the provincial nominees would already have received 600 additional CRS score points, the base score for Express Entry draw was 172. The minimum CRS score required for candidates in the previous Express Entry draw held on April 13 was 782 and that draw issued invitations to 787 PNP candidates.
All-program Express Entry draws to resume in July
The Immigration Minister of Canada Sean Fraser has announced that Canada would resume Express Entry invitations for Federal Skilled Worker Program(FSWP) and Canadian Experience Class(CEC) candidates in July this year. The minister has also informed that majority of the new Express Entry invitations would be processed within the six-month service standard.
Almost all the Express Entry draws were all-program draws before the onset of the pandemic. But ever since pandemic-related border restrictions were imposed, Canada had to limit Express Entry invitations to Canadian Experience Class and Provincial Nominee Program candidates. Canadian Experience Class candidates were chosen because they were most likely to be residing in Canada which meant they need not have to travel to the country. Canada also wanted to support its provinces in achieving their immigration goals and that is the reason why Express Entry invitations are being issued to PNP candidates.
However, the COVID-related restrictions and high number of invitations led to a backlog of applications. So Canada stopped inviting CEC candidates in 2021. But taking into consideration the severe labour shortage being faced by the country, Canada will be resuming all-program Express Entry draws in July this year.
It is expected that Canada would welcome 55000 new immigrants through Express Entry in 2022. By 2024, the number of immigrants to be welcomed through Express Entry will be as high as 110,000.
