In the fifth all-program Express Entry draw that happened since July 6, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 2750 immigration candidates to apply for permanent residence in Canada. The minimum required Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for the invited candidates was 516.
Express Entry is one of the most popular pathways for skilled workers to migrate to Canada. As an impact of the pandemic, all-program Express Entry draws had been pause for over 18 months since December 2020. During this period, the IRCC invited only candidates belonging to Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
The latest draw indicates the largest increase in the number of ITAs ever since the all-program draws resumed. Until the previous draw, each consecutive draw witnessed an increase of 250 ITAs. But the latest draw has witnessed an increase of 500. The CRS requirement had also been reducing gradually, losing eight to nine points in each draw. In the first all-program draw of July 6, the minimum CRS score required was 557.
Express Entry is an online system for managing applications under the three federal economic immigration programs, which are the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program(FSTP). Besides, most of the Provincial Nominee Programs have at least one stream or category aligned to the federal Express Entry system. Under the Express Entry, candidates are assessed and ranked on the basis of Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. Those Express Entry candidates who have a provincial nomination receive 600 additional CRS score points. Once a candidate receives an invitation, they may submit the complete application for permanent residence in Canada.
Canada is planning to bring about a number of changes to the Express Entry. The most important among these would be the introduction of targeted draws. It means candidates would be selected more on the basis of human capital factors such as education, work experience and language ability, than the CRS score.
