From June 29 onwards, Express Entry candidates will have to submit the application for Permanent Residence within 60 days of receiving the Invitation to Apply(ITA). Canada had extended the time period for submitting the application from 60 days to 90 days as a COVID-19 measure at the start of the pandemic so that the candidates would get more time to prepare their documents. The measure was introduced at a time when pandemic caused service disruptions and travel restrictions across the world. Now Canada is rolling back this measure with an aim to accelerate the immigration process. This will also allow the Immigration Department of Canada to process higher volumes of applications.
However, those who have received their ITAs before June 29 will still have 90 days to express entry applicants 2021 should submit their applications. So, this change does not affect those who have already received ITAs in the previous draws, but only those who would receive invitations in the upcoming draws.
The 60-day application period was introduced by Canada for the first time in 2018. Before that, the time period was 90 days and by then, IRCC found that 57 per cent of the applicants submitted their applications within just two months.
The latest change must be viewed in the background where Canada is rolling back various COVID-19 measures in the past few days. Canada has already lifted travel restrictions on valid COPR holders and fully vaccinated international travellers need not undergo quarantine when they arrive in Canada now. However, those candidates whose COPR has expired will have to renew their COPR before they would be able to travel to Canada.
Canada Express Entry system
The Express Entry system of Canada manages applications for immigration under the three federal economic immigration programs, which are Federal Skilled Workers Program(FSWP), Canadian Experience Class(CEC) and Federal Skilled Trades Program(FSTP). Most of the Provincial Nominee Programs are also aligned to the Federal Express Entry. The candidates are assessed on the basis of Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, which is awarded on the basis of various human capital factors. Those with the highest scores will be invited to apply for permanent residence in the draws that are conducted regularly. The candidates who are nominated by a province will receive 600 additional CRS score points and that guarantee them an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in a subsequent Express Entry applicants 2021 draw.
