In the second all-program Express Entry draw after Canada introduced special restrictions in the wake of coronavirus pandemic, which was held on August 2, a total of 3900 candidates received Invitations to Apply(ITAs) for permanent residence. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required for the immigration candidates to receive invitations in the latest Express Entry draw was 476. This is two points lower compared to the CRS cut-off score for the previous all-program Express Entry draw held on July 8, which was 478.
Though the pattern of Express Entry draws has underwent certain temporary changes in response to coronavirus pandemic, the number of invitations issued in the draw has remained high throughout the draws held in 2020. In most of the draws, the number of invitations issued was 3900. In the first two draws of the year held in January, the number of invitations issued was 3400 each. In February, IRCC held a draw that invited a record-breaking 4500 candidates. Between March and August, a total of 21 draws were held that issued invitations to 40,000 candidates. With the latest draw, the total number of Express Entry invitations issued so far this year has reached 61600.
A tie-break rule was applied in the draw and the time stamp given was July 27, at 01:02:47 UTC. It means the draw prioritized those candidates who had submitted their Express Entry profiles before the said date and time.
Canada Express Entry system
The Express Entry system of Canada is the federal immigration system that streamlines applications for immigration under the three main federal economic immigration programs, which are the Federal Skilled Worker Program(FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC) and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). The eligible candidates are assessed and ranked on the basis of Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), under which, each candidate is awarded a score based on various eligibility factors such as age, education, skilled work experience, language proficiency etc. The highest scoring candidates receive invitations in the Express Entry draws that are conducted regularly.
