Canada is now making citizenship test available online, after almost eight months of cancelling the test in the wake of the spread of coronavirus pandemic. First preference will be given to those who had their citizenship tests cancelled owing to the pandemic as well as those who are on the waiting list.
The system of online citizenship test is being implemented on an experimental basis. Once it’s proved feasible, more citizenship applicants will be invited to use this platform. Before the test begins, the candidate needs to confirm their identity through personal information, take a photo of themselves and their ID documents with a webcam. The applicants can complete the test within 21 days, at a convenient time. The system will also take the photos of the participant at the time of the test for monitoring. The introduction of the online testing system is part of Canada’s initiative to modernize the citizenship program.
