In the Express Entry draw held on April 16, Canada invited 6000 Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates to apply for permanent residence. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off score was 417, which is 15 points lower than the score of last CEC-specific Express Entry draw.
This surprise weekend draw is the second largest in the history of Canada Express Entry system. Canada conducted three of its largest Express Entry draws in the last few months as IRCC has increased the draw sizes with an aim to compensate the low immigration levels of 2020 owing to the pandemic. The largest Express Entry draw was also held this year on February 13, when a total of 27332 CEC candidates received invitations to apply for Canada PR.
A tie-break rule was applied in the April 16 draw and the time stamp given was March 1, 2021 at 19:53:46 UTC. It means the draw prioritized CEC candidates with a minimum CRS score of 417, who had submitted their Express Entry profiles of before the said date and time.
Earlier on Wednesday, Canada held an Express Entry draw that targeted provincial nominees and invited 266 candidates to apply for permanent residence. The increased frequency and size of Express Entry draws show that Canada is keen about meeting its annual immigration target for 2021, which is admitting 401000 new permanent residents.
In 2021 so far, Canada has conducted 14 Express Entry draws. All of them were program-specific and alternately targeted CEC and PNP candidates.
The Canadian Experience Class program is for those candidates who have work experience in Canada. The candidate must have at least one year of skilled, professional or technical work experience in Canada earned within 36 months before the date of applying.
