In the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) draw held on March 18, a total of 136 Express Entry stream candidates with Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score as low as 300 received Invitations to Apply for provincial nomination. Though it was not mandatory for the candidates to have a job offer, the candidates were required to have an active Express Entry profile to be invited in Alberta Express Entry draw. The invited candidates, if successfully apply for and obtain a provincial nomination from Alberta, will receive 600 additional CRS score points. It would guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw.
Canada Express Entry system
The Express Entry system of Canada manages applications for immigration through the three major federal economic class immigration programs of the country, which are Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class. The candidates who wish to migrate to Canada through Express Entry must first create an Express Entry profile. Based on various human capital factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency etc., each candidate is awarded a CRS score out of 1200. The highest scoring candidates receive an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in Canada in the Express Entry draws that are conducted regularly. Those candidates who are nominated by provinces will have 600 addition CRS points added to their total CRS score.
Alberta Express Entry stream
To receive an invitation through Alberta Express Entry stream, the candidate must have work experience in an occupation that supports the “economic development and diversification priorities” of Alberta. Candidates who meet the following criteria are given priority under the Alberta Express Entry stream.
- A job offer/work experience in Alberta
- A Canadian degree and valid job offer
- A close family member residing in Alberta
So far Alberta has invited 887 candidates in the Express Entry draws held this year. The total number of invitations issued through Alberta Express Entry stream in 2019 was 11,137.
