In the Alberta Provincial Nominee Program draw held on December 14, the province invited 150 Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination. The invited Express Entry candidates had a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score of 351. This is high compared to most of previous draws held in 2021 which had minimum CRS score hovering around 300. The candidates invited in the latest draw may now apply for provincial nomination from Alberta under the Alberta Express Entry stream. If they successfully apply for and obtain provincial nomination, they will have 600 additional CRS score points added to their total CRS score. It means, if you have a CRS score of 350, upon receiving a provincial nomination, your CRS score will be 950. The high scores would put you in a better place to receive invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in a subsequent federal Express Entry draw.
From September 2021, all the federal Express Entry draws have been exclusively inviting PNP candidates. It means Express Entry is now prioritising PNP candidates.
Alberta nomination
You have higher chances of receiving an invitation from Alberta if you have work experience in Alberta or a job offer issued by an Alberta employer or a close family member residing in the province. You must also have stated in your Express Entry profile that you are interested in moving permanently to Alberta.
Canada Express Entry
The Express Entry system of Canada manages applications for immigration under the three federal economic immigration programs of Canada, which are Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Federal Skilled Trades Program. If you want to receive an invitation through Express Entry, you need to create an Express Entry profile. Each profile will be assessed on the basis of various eligibility criteria such as age, education, work experience etc. and awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System score out of 1200. Those with the highest scores will receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada. The candidates who have a provincial nomination will have 600 additional CRS score points added to their total score. Express Entry is one of the simplest and fastest Canada immigration pathways for skilled workers.
