New Brunswick plans to increase its immigration levels in a gradual manner and targets to admit 10000 immigrants per year by 2027. Immigration is the cornerstone of the plan laid out by New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs in order to boost the province’s economy.
In 2015, the total number of permanent residents admitted by the province was only 2850. By 2018, it increased to 4610. In 2019, 5660 permanent residents were admitted till November.
By admitting more immigrants, New Brunswick aims to lessen the province’s dependency on incentives, expand the tax base, reach one million population and lower the median age. By ensuring the right infrastructure, tax and policy investment, New Brunswick will become a natural magnet of investment, said Higgs in his recent State of the Province Address.
As per the new immigration policies of the province, the credential recognition for newcomers will be improved. In order to improve the retention rates, it will be made easier for the immigrants to find new jobs or start businesses in the province.
Pathways for New Brunswick Immigration
For admitting immigrants, the province mainly depends on pathways other than the federal Express Entry system. In 2019, a major portion of the immigrants, about 70 percent, came to the province through immigration programs such as New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program and Atlantic Immigration Pilot. Only 29 percent were admitted through the Express Entry.
New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program(NBPNP)
The NBPNP aims to attract eligible candidates with the skills and qualifications in demand in the labour market of the province. The application system under the NBPNP was made online in 2019.
The four immigration categories under the NBPNP are:
- Express Entry Stream
- Skilled Worker Stream
- Entrepreneurial Stream
- Post-Graduate Entrepreneurial Stream
In the recent years, Canada Provincial Nominee Program has become a popular option for prospective immigrants to apply for Canada immigration. Do you wish to know which PNP is the best for you? Contact the experienced immigration consultants of CanApprove now!
