In the 184thheld on April 28, Canada invited 381 Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residence. The draw that specifically targeted provincial nominees had the Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) cut-off score at 717. A tie-break rule was applied and only those candidates who had submitted their Express Entry profile before March 16, 2021 at 21:20:50 UTC received invitations in the draw. By conducting PNP-specific draws, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC) is aiming to meet the labour market requirements of the provinces. In the year 2021, Canada is planning to admit 401000 new immigrants to the country. Of these, 108500 immigrants will be admitted through Express Entry. So far this year, Canada has invited 55771 Express Entry candidates.
Express Entry immigration through PNP
The PNP immigration programs give priority to candidates who have previous work or education experience or any other connections to the respective province. For the past few months, the IRCC follows and a specific pattern for Express Entry draws where they alternately target Canadian Experience Class candidates and Provincial Nominee Program candidates. PNP candidates usually require a higher CRS score because, along with provincial nomination, they receive 600 additional CRS score points. For example, if a candidate’s basic CRS score is 117, they receive an additional 600 score points when nominated by a province. With a total score of 717, they stand a chance to receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada if the CRS cut-off score is 717.
