In the first Express Entry draw to be held in 2020, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada issued 3400 Invitations to Apply(ITAs) for permanent residence. It means 200 more ITAs issued in the latest draw compared to the previous draw held on December 19, 2019. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off score in the draw held on January 8 was 473 points.
Tie-break rule was applied in January 8 draw, the time stamp given being December 27, 2019 at 13:35:09 UTC. It means not all candidates who had a minimum score of 473 received an ITA. Only those who had submitted their Express Entry profiles before the said date and time were prioritized in the draw.
Though the CRS cut-off score has increased by a few points in the latest draw compared to the previous draw, Canada immigration experts predict that in the future, candidates with CRS score as low as 450 points may be invited to apply. Last year, the lowest CRS cut-off score in any all-program Express Entry draw was 438. Canada having set a higher immigration target for the Express Entry programs for 2020-2021, it is expected that the CRS cut-off score would come down in the upcoming draws.
Canada announced its updated Immigration Levels Plan for 2019-2021 on October 31, 2018. As per the Plan, nearly 256,000 immigration candidates will be admitted to Canada during these three years. Another 200,000 or so permanent residents will be admitted to Canada through provincial nominee programs during the plan period.
The Express Entry candidates who receive provincial nomination obtain 600 additional CRS score points that ensure them an ITA to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw. The Express Entry system also gives priority to international students who have graduated from Canadian institutions of higher education in the form of extra CRS score points.
Minimum CRS requirements in the Express Entry draws held this year:
Date | CRS cut-off score | Number of ITAs issued |
---|---|---|
January 8, 2020 | 473 | 3400 |
