Canadian cities namely Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto were ranked high on the Global Liveability Index that was recently released by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).
The Economist Intelligence Unit is a division of The Economist Group, which operates the popular magazine The Economist. The index ranks world cities based on criteria like stability, culture, healthcare, infrastructure, and education.
The survey ranked Calgary at fifth position out of 140 world cities, the highest by any city in Canada. Vancouver and Toronto held on to their rankings from last year, ranking sixth and seventh, respectively. This makes three Canadian cities among the top 10 most ‘liveable’ cities in the world.
The high ranking of Canadian cities- Calgary in Alberta province, Vancouver in British Columbia province, Toronto in Ontario province only shows that Canadian cities are free from the threat of terror, military conflict or civil unrest. The availability and quality of private and public healthcare as well as education are beyond expectations in these cities. Also, the quality of roads, public transportation, availability of housing, secularity and tolerance are all at its peak.

According to Statistics Canada, Calgary had welcomed nearly 46% of total immigrants moving to Alberta. During the same period, nearly 81% of total immigrants moving to British Columbia landed up in Vancouver and about 76% of immigrants who moved to Ontario chose Toronto as their preferred destination.
